Katie Verner (Co-Founder/Director/ Teacher)
LITTLE MUSIC STARS is a collaboration with close friend Jeanne Friedman and was born after they realized that they could offer something different to the ‘old fashioned’ pre school music programs that are out there today. Katie wanted to inject new life into traditional children’s songs whilst also writing new songs that make the LITTLE MUSIC STARS program stand out as being modern, memorable and easy to learn. She has really enjoyed devising the new program along with the song writing process. The original songs for LITTLE MUSIC STARS incorporate as many different music genres throughout the curriculum. Katie’s classes are performance based and have a strong emphasis on the children’s imagination through song and dance as well as making it relaxed and fun!
Katie enjoyed a very successful musical theatre career in London’s West End along with tours across Great Britain and internationally for 17 years. She has just finished ‘Stepping Out’ , the comedy play, in London’s west end. Katie is also established in the UK as a well-known singing teacher and has taught musical theatre workshops for children of all ages. She arrived in Los Angeles in 2011 with her son Samuel and lived there for 3 years. After developing the LMS music program in LA she returned back to the UK and is now running Little Music Stars classes here, with plans to expand the LMS curriculum nationwide. Little Music Stars classes are still running successfully in Los Angeles, California and she hopes that it will also be expanded throughout the USA.
Jeanne Friedman (Co-Founder & Director)
Jeanne started her career in the UK as an actress/singer in theatre and TV productions before she got her ‘big break’ as a Television presenter/host fronting a NETWORK daily TV show called CHILDREN’S ITV. With ratings of over 3 million a day, she quickly became a UK celebrity appearing on other TV shows, national and international events and numerous magazine features. Jeanne quickly established herself as a singer/songwriter and had hits with major record companies including SONY. Jeanne helped to devise and run an innovative course called POP ACADEMY at The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford (ACM), Surrey. For students aged 12 and upwards the curriculum included; vocal training, dancing, choreography, song writing, recording, staging, styling, media training, live performance and making pop videos.
Jeanne moved to Los Angeles in 2011 with her husband Aron and 7 year old daughter Sophie. She teaches private singing lessons to students aged 8 and upwards and vocal coaches several LA based recording artists and actors. The fantastic opportunity to develop the LITTLE MUSIC STARS pre-school music program with close friend Katie, is extremely exciting, as it is something that has always been close to her heart. There is nothing more rewarding than teaching music to small children at the start of their life-long musical journey.
